Evrard Residence

The McDonald Construction team believes a house is more than just a place to hang your hat. It’s the small details that turn a structure into a home that people truly love.

For Rachelle and Bob Evrard, that meant a custom-build on their dream piece of land – 13 acres in their ideal school district, where Hudson (10), Henry (8), and Leo (4) could grow up near family and friends.

From the beginning, Rachelle and Bob knew they wanted to design a floor plan as unique as their family. They also wanted to have complete control over all the design elements and the ability to customize every last detail.

“After meeting with other builders who we didn’t feel fully listened to our goals, objective, and budget, it was clear McDonald was different,” Rachelle said. “We had a great initial meeting with Teresa, their in-house architect, and they assured us they could bring our vision to life within our budget. They delivered on that promise!”

For the McDonald team, the priorities were clear.

“We knew the Evrard family was always on the move and active, especially playing sports indoors and out,” Teresa said. “But they also loved hosting and entertaining. The ideal home for them had to reflect all those elements.”

To bring this vision to life, Teresa started with an open-concept main floor featuring a gourmet kitchen and vaulted ceilings. The design would also connect to the grounds with sweeping views of the outdoors through a porch with large sliders, the perfect location for watching a movie or sporting event.

From there, Teresa incorporated an exercise room, indoor gym, lower-level game room, and a bunk room upstairs. And, throughout the entire home, Marvin® windows and doors added plenty of natural light, along with unprecedented performance and exceptional aesthetics.

Rachelle and Bob stayed involved every step of the way, finding design inspiration from Instagram and the Parade of Homes. Rachelle enjoyed working on the flooring and cabinetry design most of all.

“I love that the home was designed just for us, and we really use all the spaces,” Rachelle said. “From the large gourmet kitchen to the sport court to the bonus and bunk room upstairs, everything suits our family perfectly. I also love all the small details like outlets in the mudroom lockers, special cabinet features, and the butler’s pantry to keep things organized and clutter-free.”

Rachelle and Bob were also impressed by how the entire project stayed on track.

“Once the City permits were secured, the build was smooth sailing,” Rachelle said. “We had a few small things arise during the build that required tweaks to our original plan, but McDonald worked closely with us to find solutions and keep things on track.”

McDonald Construction has been building homes since 1978. But for most people, a custom-build is a whole new experience.

It’s also a process that can teach a person a lot about themselves. The Evrard family learned that they’re pretty decisive and go with their gut on design choices.

“I loved seeing the different pieces come together to create a beautiful outcome,” Rachelle said.

However, the Evrard family also had helpful advice to share with people just starting out.

“Really take your time researching and thinking hard about not only your design style, but how you live in your home and want it to flow/function,” Rachelle said. “The more time you put into the process the more you will get out of it!”

Welcome home, Evrards; thank you for trusting us with your custom build!
