The Interior Design Associate for McDonald Construction Partners, LLC (MCP) is a creative and detail-oriented professional responsible for supporting the Project Manager / Designer and the Interior Design Department in the design and selection process for custom homes, renovation projects, model homes, and MCP’s Design Studio.
This individual works closely with the Project Manager / Designer to help deliver a professional and enjoyable customer experience while ensuring selections are accurately documented, coordinated, and executed.
The Interior Design Associate will develop an understanding of residential construction, interior and exterior selections, MCP home designs, and the overall building process. This individual must possess a positive attitude, strong organizational skills, creative ability, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn in a fast-paced environment. The Interior Design Associate will collaborate with customers, vendors, trade partners, and MCP team members while representing the company’s commitment to quality and exceptional customer service.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist the Project Manager / Designer in preparing for and participating in customer selection meetings by organizing materials, documenting decisions, preparing presentation materials, and completing follow-up tasks.
- Create, maintain, and organize selection specifications, finish schedules, selection sheets, pricing information, and project documentation.
- Assist in the preparation of construction selection specifications and documentation for use by the MCP estimating, purchasing, architecture, and construction teams.
- Maintain accurate and current project files and ensure design information is properly communicated as selections are finalized and revised.
- Research and assist in the selection of new materials, products, furnishings, finishes, and design elements. Stay informed on current design trends, materials, techniques, and developments in residential construction.
- Coordinate with vendors, suppliers, and trade partners regarding product information, samples, lead times, availability, and design-related materials.
- Maintain the design library, sample inventory, catalogs, and product information to support the efficiency and organization of the Interior Design Department.
- Assist with ordering, receiving, inspecting, and organizing design-related materials and products to verify accuracy and quality.
- Assist in the coordination, installation, styling, and maintenance of model homes, Design Studio displays, and selection merchandising.
- Participate in jobsite visits, electrical and low-voltage walkthroughs, and final design inspections to develop an understanding of how selections are implemented during construction.
- Assist with tracking customer selection revisions, preparing selection amendments and change documentation, and maintaining accurate records throughout the construction process.
- Collaborate effectively with the MCP sales, preconstruction, architecture, construction, and accounting teams to support project timelines, budgets, and customer expectations.
- Assist in scheduling customer selection appointments, vendor meetings, and other design-related activities.
- Build professional relationships with customers, vendors, trade partners, and MCP team members while maintaining a positive and service-oriented attitude.
- Support the Project Manager / Designer in the continued development, maintenance, and improvement of MCP’s Design Studio offerings, design standards, selection processes, and departmental systems.
- Possess teamwork qualities.
- Perform related work as required.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Interior Design or related field required.
- 0–3 years of professional interior design experience preferred, with residential construction experience preferred.
- Creative talent, imagination, and an eye for design.
- Understanding of residential design principles, materials, finishes, and construction methods.
- Ability to interpret residential plans, drawings, and construction documents.
- Proficiency in design and presentation software such as Revit, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, and other related programs.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to learn MCP software systems, including Buildertrend.
- Strong verbal, written, and presentation communication skills.
- Possess strong organizational and project management skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Ability to plan and prioritize job responsibilities across multiple projects.
- Build rapport with customers and trade partners, gain their confidence and trust through effective listening and communication skills, and develop a strong understanding of MCP’s home designs, construction methods, preferred products, and quality standards.
