Our Process

The McDonald process makes a great home-building experience.

Building a home should be exciting. That’s why McDonald Construction Partners uses a proven process that will get you into the home you have always wanted, in an enjoyable way!

Meet with a McDonald New Home Consultant to determine your new home needs, project requirements, and desired budget.

Whether on your lot or ours, McDonald is ready to design and build your new home.  If you want to secure a McDonald-owned home site, a signed reservation agreement will get you started. If you are considering another site, we will conduct a site visit to make sure we understand the unique aspects of your lot.

Connect with an experienced lender to discuss construction financing details for your new McDonald home. We can connect you with lenders who have established construction loan programs.

You may personalize one of our existing home plans or design your own home with our in-house, award-winning designer. This step involves an architectural design agreement and deposit.

Meet with the McDonald Home Team to review your plans and modify the design to fit your needs and lifestyle. When complete, we will price your home and provide you with a construction cost estimate.

Once you have approved the home design and construction cost estimate, the next step is to sign the Construction Contract.

Meet with our interior designer and trade partners to complete the exterior, interior, and low-voltage selections for your home.

After the construction contract is in place, we schedule a meeting to review and approve your final plans. Once the plans are approved, the property survey and home engineering will be ordered. McDonald submits the permit application to the city for your building permit.

Once construction financing is in place and the building permit is ready, we will schedule the excavation of your home.

There will be multiple walk-throughs during the construction process to confirm selections, review progress, and discuss any changes you want to be made.

Meet a McDonald Field Supervisor at your new home to receive your new home orientation. We will walk through the home with you and show you how everything works so you can care for and enjoy your new home.

Prior to closing, you will walk through your new home with a McDonald Field Supervisor and verify the home is ready for you to move in. We will also review the final draw request with you. Once everything is ready, the closing will occur at McDonald’s office and we will give you the keys to your beautiful new home!

Have peace of mind knowing McDonald provides a 1-year workmanship, 2-year systems/mechanical, and 10-year structural warranty on your home.

We believe in “doing the right thing” and that means supporting our community and environment. We strive to use and support locally-sourced Minnesota-made products and work with other companies in our community. We are an Energy Star and Designated MN Green Path Builder. We are committed to testing and providing a MN Green Path Home Performance Report for 100% of our homes.

In 2021, to improve on our commitment to sustainability and the environment, we became an Energy Star Builder so we can build our homes to the specifications of the Department of Energy’s Energy Star new home program when the homesite allows. We will continue to make sustainability a top priority for all of the homes we build!

We are committed to making every custom home build or renovation project exceptional. From our first contact with customers to the completion of their home or project, we will communicate with them throughout the process and provide them with the high-quality craftsmanship McDonald is known for. Our combination of integrity, communication, and quality has kept homeowners coming back to us, time and time again, for their design, building, and renovation needs.  We are proud to have built multiple homes for so many clients.
